Adrenaline Adventure Wilderness

  • 4 nights at Rhino Walking Safaris in the Kruger
  • 5 nights at Cape Grace in Cape Town
  • 3 nights at Royal Chundu in Victoria Falls

This tour drops you right into it. You start off in the wilderness of the infamous Kruger National Park. This is real Big 5 territory, where lion and elephant rule, and you’ll be hiking through it.

Next, you’re climbing Table Mountain. You can dive with the seals or the sharks, skydive or paraglide. Mountain bike through the Winelands, sandboard the dunes or simply taking in the scenery, food and culture. We’ll work with the weather and your preferences to keep the adrenaline flowing.

Finally, you’ll be whisked off to the majestic Victoria Falls, home of the thundering bungee. Here you can relax on a whitewater raft or on a scenic flight.

Sandy patches and hardy trees dot the edges of the savannah. In their shadows lie sleek yellow torpedos, eyes up, constantly scanning for movement. The herds mill in the open, far from cover, sentries facing outward. The sun bakes down on this tableau, heating up the landscape as the tension in the air grows. A straggler falls behind, and suddenly three lionesses are on their haunches. This is the circle of life.

Sometimes it’s the spider and the wasp. Then it’s the hare and the jackal, or the leopard and the springbok. Often, the chase is over before it begins, and fleeting hooves find safety. At other times, a predator is fed, and then the scavengers, and finally the beetles and worms get their share, and new life blooms. On foot, you will get the opportunity to look more closely, and truly discover the magic of this wilderness.

The Kruger National Park is a majestic wilderness region, with infinite layers of intrigue beneath the scenic surface. There is a world of difference between experiencing this from the comfort of a vehicle, and getting on your knees to inspect the earth while your ranger tells you the story of the night, reading the marks and prints in the dirt like a newspaper. We’ve priced this trip for a classic walking safari, but other options are on the table. You can do the bush on horseback if you’d prefer, or a take a tracking course instead of a hike.

For the adventure enthusiast, Cape Town is a paradise. Wedged between the stormy currents of the Atlantic Ocean on one side, and towering Table Mountain on the other, and surrounded by hills and streams, fields and forests, and verdant nature as far as you can drive, the city has something for everyone. The icy seas are full of life, and all the predators that this attracts. The mountains are full of trails, which you can attack with whatever equipment you prefer. In the evenings, good food and bustling culture will keep you entertained.

This is your adventure, so we’ve built this itinerary to offer a certain amount of flexibility, but whatever you do, we’ll make sure you’re doing it with a good guide. This is the Cape of Storms, so we’ll work with the weather to make sure you have a great time. We’ll also advise as to what’s buzzing in the city so that you get the most out of the Mother City. Your base of operations, the Cape Grace, is situated in the heart of the city, in one of the most convenient and picturesque neighbourhoods, offering easy walking access to the best that the city has to offer.

The thundering cloud that hangs over the Falls is a sight to behold. Victoria Falls is the best place in Africa to lounge on a deck chair, and sip a cocktail while swiping through your trip photos on your iPad and deciding how soon you’ll be coming back. However, we’re not done with you yet, so we’ll be shipping you down the Zambezi in a white water raft, and then we’ll give you the scenic aerial tour. And maybe then we’ll let you have that cocktail!

Royal Chundu is the only lodge in Zambia to not share its waterways with any other lodge, meaning that guests can embark on remarkably secluded explorations of a beautiful 15 kilometre stretch of river. Daily sundowner cruises are included in the rates. Decadent riverside picnics, along with some of the best tiger fishing and bird-watching in Africa, are also on offer. Guests can easily take tours to the Victoria Falls or some of the colourful local villages, and can be assured of returning to a place of absolute peace, comfort and indulgence.

As it stands, the tour goes “Bushveld, then Cape Town, then Vic Falls” because this is the easiest flight routing. We can do it in a different direction or add/remove destinations as well. We’ve priced it to include one activity per day, but many variations are possible. Simply chat to us!

  • A hiking safari in the Kruger National Park. See the Big 5 while on foot. Sleeping out in the bush is a possibility.
  • Guided hiking in Cape Town with Mother City Hikers. The most popular would be up Table Mountain for the spectacular views, but ask us about other routes if this is an interest.
  • Guided mountain biking in and around Cape Town and the Cape Winelands with AWOL Tours. A fantastic variety of terrain is available.
  • Sand boarding. Explore beautiful coastal areas, climb giant dunes and then board down them!
  • Shark Cage Diving + the Flying Great Whites - this is an Apex Predators special (some of the hosts for Nat Geo Shark Week), and there is no better way to learn to love these amazing sharks.
  • Paragliding and/or skydiving. The ultimate way to get a panoramic view of Cape Town - you just choose the speed at which it happens.
  • Snorkel with Cape Fur Seals. These amazingly agile creatures play a significant role in our local ecosystem. Watch them do their thing.
  • Scenic flights offer an incredible perspective on how majestic these landscapes are, both over Cape Town and Victoria Falls.
  • White Water Rafting. There are few places on the African continent as revered by river people as the Zambezi Gorge.
  • Tiger fishing in the Zambezi. Catch an incredible predator in one of Africa's most famous rivers.
  • Vic Falls Bungee. You go down, you come up, what’s the big deal? How about one of the most epic waterfalls in the world thundering behind you!

If you’d prefer, the tour can be booked without activities, and these can be arranged separately.

African safari experiences are typically known for their luxurious comforts. This tour certainly lives up to the standard, but we also ensure that when you’re not just sipping a cocktail and enjoying the view, you’re bombing over the landscape as fast as your wheels will go, or flying, diving, climbing up, under, and over it. This is an adventurer’s tour to the wild continent.

In front of me stood a man with a gun, and I felt the hairs on my arms stand on end. This was not a scream-and-giggle fright… this was body-going-numb, mind-paralysis fear. I was not afraid of the man with the gun. I was afraid for him, afraid of hulking grey mass standing, snorting, 30 paces up the trail with a horn like a cleaver pointing our way. His voice crashed through the blood rushing in my ears. This rugged man with his broad shoulders, and his gun still casually slung over them. His voice was low and fierce, as if there was something of the wild in him too.

“We are not panicking,” he said. I wanted to laugh hysterically. “We are going to look at her respectfully, and we are going to shuffle slowly backwards.” This worked for me, because my numb legs couldn’t run if I begged them. We’d hardly taken a step before the rhino turned her head, gave one last snort, and disappeared into the bush. For the first time in a very long time, I remembered that the top of the food chain was a position you had to earn.
